COMING OUT APPEALS TO THE EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS FOR FREEDOM OF ASSEMBLY VIOLATION IN CONNECTION WITH THE “PROPAGANDA” LAW

November 20, 2013, "Coming Out" LGBT organization lodged its first complaint to the European Court of Human Rights against discrimination and violation of LGBT rights to freedom of assembly.

Matter for complaint – refusal by the Government of St. Petersburg to permit demonstration against the federal “propaganda of homosexuality” law on December 19, 2012, at “Pioneer square” in St. Petersburg. In its decision to turn down Coming Out’s appeal, St. Petersburg City court referred to the “propaganda of homosexuality” law that the picket would hypothetically violate if it were to happen.

TRIAL OF “COMINGOUT”: NEXT COURT SESSION WITH PARTICIPATION OF MINISTRY OF JUSTICE

Today, December 4, there was a preliminary court session on the new case regarding LGBT organization “Comingout” and its recognition as a “foreign agent”. Attorney office demands “Comingout” registration in the list of foreign agents, and remedial activity without the label “foreign agent” is considered as bringing harm to indefinite range of persons.

LGBT ORGANIZATION “COMINGOUT” – TRIALS AGAIN

Attorney office continues prosecution of LGBT Organization “Comingout”

Having failed the attempt to bring administrative action against “Comingout” for not entering the registry of foreign agents attorney office sued second time – now with civil suit. According to the prosecutor it brings harm to indefinite range of persons that Comingout is not in the registry. Court session scheduled on December 4.

COURT DECIDED ATTACK ON LGBT ACTION WAS A CRIME

Pertogradskiy district court held that attack on participants of LGBT action was a crime. Attacker was sentenced to 2 years suspended for shooting from the gas pistol to demonstrator. 

 Let us remember that 18 months ago when “orthodox activist” Gleb Lihotkin learned about the street rally for support of LGBT rights he came to the place and shot to demonstrators from the gas pistol. As a motive of his action Lihotkin named the writing on the balloon that the injured person, Boris Romanov, had in his hands – “Christ loves men and women equally”. This writing “hurt religious feelings” of Lihotkin so much that he shot to the face of Romanov.

OPEN LETTER OF PARENTS TO DMIRTIY CHIZHEVSKIY AND LGBT COMMUNITY OF ST PETERSBURG

Dima, we know that in spite of the wound you hang in brilliantly and intend not to allow hushing up of this outrageous crime.

We, mothers of your friends, want to support not only you but your mother as well – we understand how hard it is for her. This is an accident that the bullet of berserk homophobes got into you. It could be any of our children  - just only for being part of LGBT. Or not even being the part of the community, but for supporting you in the fight for equal civil rights.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF “COMINGOUT” ABOUT THE ATTACK ON LASKY OFFICE

Past evening on the next day after the March against Hatred and before the Day of National Unity 2 unknown persons attacked participants of “Rainbow teatime” – weekly meeting of LGBT people that took place at the office of LaSky.

This was a planed crime: faces of the attackers were covered with ski masks. They had air pistols and baseball bats. 2 people were harmed: Dima Chizhevskiy with his eye wounded was taken to hospital; Anna Prutskova had her back being hurt. There were about 30 in the community center.

For Thomas Bach, Russia is not the place to commit to a dialogue about non-discrimination

October 30 -- Thomas Bach, President of the International Olympic Committee, refused to meet with representatives of a coalition of Russian LGBT organizations during his Sochi visit, offering a meeting in Lausanne instead. LGBT activists in Russia see this decision as yet another indicator that the Sochi Olympics are far from being a platform to uphold and promote the Olympic values.

BuzzFeed: Russian LGBT Activists Say New IOC Chief Ignoring Request To Meet During Russia Visit

The newly elected president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach has not responded to a request sent from a coalition of Russian LGBT organizations asking for a meeting during his first visit to Sochi, the Russian coalition said on Monday, as Bach arrived in the southern city to meet Vladimir Putin.

Statement about the law regarding deprivation of parents rights from LGBT

During September 2013, the State Duma is discussing an outrageous proposal: deprive parents rights of people “who allow non-traditional sexual relations”. The amendment to the Family Code was drafted by a United Russia delegate Zhuravlev. Duma’s Committee on Family, Women and Children started work on this law and recommended to include is  in the State Duma program for February of 2014.
