30% of Russian Homosexual Families with Children Live “in the Closet”, 49% Stopped Being Open Recently

In November 2013, “Coming Out” LGBT organization conducted an Internet survey of same-sex families with children. Their anonymity and safety was the highest priority for the researcher, sociologist Alisa Zhabenko. The situation around Russian homosexual community remains tense; not only are same-sex families claimed illegitimate, but they recently have been considered inappropriate for raising children at all.

COURT FOUND NOT GUILTY PARTICIPANTS OF LGBT ACTION AT MARSOVO FIELD

Court decided: all participants of LGBT action at Marsovo field arrested after October 12, 2013 are not guilty. Case was closed on last Friday.

We remind that on October 12, 2013 it was planned to hold street meeting on Marsovo field dedicated to the International Comingout day (voluntary and open confession of one’s homosexuality or transgender identity).

COMING OUT’S TRIAL: FIRST HEARING

March 12 at 3 p.m. Vasileostrovsky district court of St. Petersburg held the first main hearing of the civil case on "foreign agents" brought in action by the Central District of St. Petersburg Prosecutor's Office VS the LGBT organization “Coming Out”.

LGBT ORGANIZATIONS Coalition’s Statement

From February, 26 to March, 2 the first Russian Open LGBT games were held in Moscow. 330 athletes from 11 countries participated in this event, organized by the Federation of LGBT sport with the support of the Russian coalition of LGBT organizations. From the very first day the organizers and the participants encountered attempts to disrupt the Games. They faced pressure from the police forces, the Federal Migration Service and the Moscow authorities.

HATE MOTIVE DISREGARDED ; CASE SUSPENDED

Homophobia was not considered as an aggravating circumstance in the case of the attack on Dmitry Chizhevsky . A refusal to reclassify the offense from "an act of hooliganism" to "a hate crime motivated by hatred against the LGBT social group" was received from the investigator O. A. Novgorodtseva .  Judge E.V. Nikitin concluded that the denial of that reclassification "can not cause any threat to the constitutional rights and freedoms of the parties of the criminal trial".

WE ARE AGAINST MILITARY INTERVENTION OF RUSSIA IN UKRAINE

LGBT Organization “Coming Out” shares values of peace and non-violence. Military intervention in another state approved a couple of days ago by the Council of the Federation cannot be considered as peace-keeping activity. If one country sends armed people to kill people in another country – this kind of action has always been called “war”.

Open games

Traditional Week against homophobia and transphobia in this year coincided with the first in Russia Outdoor games and sports: competitions for LGBT people. The results of Games the organizers will publicize later, but for now we want to tell about those events, which conducted Coming Out in the all-Russian LGBT-active week lasting from the end of February to beginning of March.

PETITION OF THE PARENT CLUB AND PARENT MOVEMENT IN REGARDS TO THE INITIATION OF ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEEDINGS OF ELENA KLIMOVA

The law to ban so-called “propaganda of homosexuality” among minors, calling to not allow the damage to the health of children and adolescents, can soon cause the opposite effect.

Journalist from Nizhniy Tagil, Elena Klimova, who is administrating the group support on the social media, is being accused of activities aimed at the assertion of the “attractiveness of non-traditional sexual relations.”

Brief History of LGBT in Russia, XX Century - Now in English

The 38 pages booklet was published as part of the 5th annual International Queer Festival 2013 in St. Petersburg, and is written by art historian and member of Moscow feminist Group Nadia Plungian. It is devoted to LGBT history in Russia and the Soviet Union - from medicalization and social isolation to the development of subcultures and the fight for political rights.
