IDAHO in St. Petersburg Celebrated Despite Attacks

Today St. Petersburg LGBT community commemorated International Day against Homophobia and Transphobia by holding an officially authorized mass rally. Over 300 people gathered in Petrovsky park in St. Petersburg. However, not all of those present came to support the ideas of  tolerance and non-violence to LGBT.

LGBT human rights abuse under the new "homosexual propaganda" law continues in St. Petersburg

Today 17 LGBT activists of St. Petersburg were arrested for carrying rainbow flags as part of the May 1st civil rights and freedom march on Nevsky prospect, city's main avenue.

This year's May 1st march is a peaceful demonstration, permitted by the city administration. LGBT activists were marching as part of a larger "democratic" column, consisting of various democratic and civil society groups of St. Petersburg. 5 minutes into the march, police requested removal of rainbow flags.

Police ignores the court, while the court ignores propaganda

The court hearing of Igor Kochetkov's case had scarcely begun when it was already over. In five minutes Igor came out of the court hall saying: "This is the shortest court hearing in my life. The witness did not show up".

This time the judge didn't have to think of a reason to postpone the hearing.

The First in Saint-Petersburg Trial for the "Propaganda of Sodomy and Lesbianism" will be Held on April 16

The first court hearing in the in the history of Saint-Petersburg on charges of promoting homosexuality will take place on 16 April at 14:30. The defendants are chairman of the Russian LGBT Network, Igor Kochetkov, and lawyer Sergey Kondrashov. The trial will be held at 4 Sovetskaya Street, 26 (judicial section 210). After the trial, Kochetkov and Kondrashov will give remarks at a street press conference.

Police considered a protest against state homophobia as propaganda

Today,  7th of April at 12.00 in front of the Oktyabrsky concert hall a series of single person pickets  were carried out. The pickets were dedicated to the Day of Silence. 7 people with sealed mouths took their turns protesting against discrimination and violence against LGBT, against homophobia of the government which silenced and outlawed LGBT community.

Tchaikovsky and Tsvetaeva Banned from St. Petersburg

LGBT organization Coming Out has recently learned that one of St. Petersburg's largest advertising companies has refused to hang signs featuring photographs of Tchaikovsky, Tsvetaeva, and Nureyev in the city's center. The photos of these prominent figures of Russian culture contain quotes from their own works and letters which attest to their same-sex love.

Homophobic Law alive in St. Petersburg, Russia

Today St. Petersburg city administration denied LGBT activists the right to organize an International Day of Silence street protest. Basis for denial – the infamous "gay propaganda" law, which came into effect in St. Petersburg on March 30 of this year.
